Lakeside Community Trail Plan

DATE: March 22, 2000
TO: Board of Supervisors
SUBJECT: LAKESIDE COMMUNITY TRAIL PLAN

SUMMARY:

Should the County of San Diego proceed with the development of a Trails Map for the community of Lakeside?

Recommendation
SUPERVISOR JACOB
Direct the Chief Administrative Officer to begin the process to develop a Trails Map for the community of Lakeside in the most timely manner possible.

Fiscal Impact
None

BACKGROUND:
Six communities currently enjoy the benefits of an adopted community Trails Map. Those regions include Central Mountain, Ramona, Spring Valley, Valle De Oro, Sweetwater and San Dieguito. A Trails Map establishes a plan for future equestrian trails and benefits both developers and the community in understanding where and how future trail linkages are to occur.

Lakeside is a community that prides itself on its extensive equestrian activities. Home of renowned rodeo events, Lakeside is a rural community where private ownership of horses is high and horseback riding is a popular recreational activity. Unfortunately, as development has occurred, many of the well used and long established horse trails have been lost. To help preserve trails, and to properly plan for future trails, the adoption of a Trails Map is essential.
