BACKGROUND:
The Mt. Laguna Fire Department lost a water tender during the Viejas fire. The apparatus broke down while responding to the fire and is well beyond repair. Fortunately, a replacement water tender is available for purchase from the City of San Diego. The loss of this apparatus is a matter of public safety for the residents of Mt. Laguna and visitors to the area. In addition, the acquisition of this apparatus will significantly assist other fire agencies during mutual aid incidents. The Mt. Laguna Fire Department operates on a slim annual budget and cannot afford the cost of purchasing and equipping the water tender on their own.

This action will allocate $8,000 to the Mt. Laguna Fire Department for the purchase of a water tender from the City of San Diego. I urge your support.

Respectfully submitted,

DIANNE JACOB
Supervisor, Second District
