San Diego, CA - Under the leadership of County Supervisors Dianne Jacob and Greg Cox, the County of San Diego has reached an agreement with the Edgemoor Hospital Foundation defining its new role as an independent tax-exempt charitable organization dedicated to supporting the patients at Edgemoor Hospital.

"I am thrilled to have played a part in reaching this agreement with the Foundation," said Supervisor Dianne Jacob. "The patients of Edgemoor Hospital come first. Not only will they benefit from additional financial assistance, but they will also benefit from the tremendous volunteer support of the Foundation members," she added.

Over the past three months, Jacob and Cox headed a subcommittee of the Board of Supervisors charged with reaching an agreement with the Edgemoor Hospital Foundation. The subcommittee was set up as a result of a 1998 audit report that raised questions surrounding the Foundation's relationship with the County, including the expenditure of County funds. The agreement lifts a cloud of questions that have hovered over the activities of the Foundation. The Foundation will now exist solely to support Edgemoor patients, independent of the County. The County also agreed not to recoup these funds from the Foundation.

"I am pleased to have reached a mutual agreement that is in the best interests of all concerned," said Reverend Glenn Allison, chairman of the Edgemoor Hospital Foundation. "The Foundation is now free to seek support from a more diverse group of individuals who also have the best interest of the patients at heart," he added.

The Edgemoor Hospital Foundation was established in 1990 for the purpose of raising funds to finance construction of a new Edgemoor Hospital in Santee. Edgemoor Hospital cares for some 200 indigent patients who suffer from severe illnesses.
