San Diego - At today's unveiling of SANDAG's Draft Regional Transportation Plan update, Supervisor Dianne Jacob strongly urged the Board of Directors to immediately move forward with the widening of SR 67 to four lanes between Lakeside and Ramona.

The previous Regional Transportation Plan included this widening. However, SANDAG is now proposing a scaled back version with plans to study the freeway corridor.

Noting that SR 67 is currently operating at a Level of Service F, Jacob stated, "We already know that this entire stretch of freeway needs to be widened. We don't need to waste time and resources studying it further."

Jacob informed the Board that several families who have lost loved ones on SR 67 testified to its danger at a Transportation Summit she hosted in Ramona last night.

"State Route 67 widening needs to be added back to the Regional Transportation Plan and funded immediately to avoid the loss of any more precious lives or injuries along this road," Jacob said. "To delete the widening of SR 67, a vital north/south route for East County residents, would be completely irresponsible," she added.

Jacob also asked that the proposed north/south Carmel Valley to San Marcos route be eliminated from any future consideration. "It is obvious that this route would traverse extremely sensitive environmental lands, would be cost-prohibitive, and will never be built." said Jacob.
