GENERATORS ESCAPE SCOTT FREE UNDER GOVERNOR'S ENERGY PLAN
SAN DIEGO - A plan by California's Governor to stem the state's energy crisis falls far short of what is needed to control profit-happy wholesale energy generators, County of San Diego Supervisor Dianne Jacob said tonight.
"Governor Davis did nothing to take generators to task for their months and months of profiteering on the backs of San Diego and California consumers," said Jacob.
Davis' ten-point plan included revamping the state's energy bidding process, restructuring the electricity oversight governing boards and hiring additional inspectors to monitor the sale of wholesale energy.
"The Governor ignored his options to keep ratepayers from shouldering the burden from the state's shoddy deregulation legislation. He did not push for a region-wide wholesale rate cap and he did nothing to investigate a possible windfall profit tax which would take back public money from the swollen pockets of greedy generators," said Jacob.
