BRAND NEW COUNTY BUSES OFFER SMOOTH RIDES TO EAST COUNTY RESIDENTS
From La Mesa to Alpine, riding the bus just got faster and easier thanks to the introduction of 40 new County Transit System buses which will service suburban routes in the East County.
The shiny red, white and blue buses are loaded with features designed to make riding the bus more convenient for today's passengers. The buses are fixed with modern bicycle racks and lower floors for easier passenger access and feature state-of-the-art wheelchair ramps instead of lifts to better assist disabled riders.
"These cleaner and more reliable buses will no doubt improve passengers service and on-time performance for East County riders," said Supervisor Dianne Jacob who represents the County*s second district. "Many of the buses will be assigned to busier routes to make certain that East County passengers arrive at their destinations as quickly as possible," Jacob said.
Jacob said that in the East County, bus ridership has increased from more than 1.5 million passengers to four million passengers over the last decade. Jacob noted that the county continues to prioritize transportation needs for the area.
The new buses will replace a fleet of older buses which have been in service since the 1980s. The new fleet boasts 33 full size buses and seven new mid-sized buses. They will service routes in El Cajon, La Mesa, Lemon Grove, Santee, Spring Valley, Rancho San Diego, Grossmont, Lakeside and Alpine.
To introduce the buses to the public, all East County passengers will be allowed to ride free on suburban buses on Sunday, September 30.
