NEW LIBRARIES FOR LAKESIDE, CASA DE ORO IN THE WORKS
At the recommendation of Supervisor Dianne Jacob, county officials on Tuesday (12/15/15) stepped up plans to build new libraries in Lakeside and Casa de Oro.
The Board of Supervisors voted to set aside $125,000 in county Neighborhood Reinvestment funds to help acquire land for a Lakeside library, and another $125,000 for a Casa de Oro facility. The county is seeking property for each project.
“Our county libraries are more than just places to read and learn; they serve as the heartbeat of the community,” Supervisor Jacob said. “The prospect of new libraries in Lakeside and Casa de Oro is particularly good news because they would replace existing facilities that each community outgrew years ago.”
Since Jacob took office in 1993, the county has opened a dozen new libraries in East County, including in Ramona, Julian, Spring Valley and Rancho San Diego. A new library is also set to be completed this spring in Alpine.
Many other facilities have been remodeled and upgraded, including libraries in Fletcher Hills, Santee and El Cajon. A major remodel of the Poway Library is expected to be completed this month, with a formal ribbon-cutting planned for February.
