SUBJECT: Improvements to Cactus Park in Lakeside
SUMMARY:
Overview
Today's proposal will provide funds, build an ADA-compliant restroom,
drill a well, and install a new playground at Cactus Park in Lakeside.
Recommendations:
SUPERVISOR DIANNE JACOB:
1. Allocate $120,000 from the District Two Community Projects fund (0262)
to the Lakeside Bobby Sox to make
ballfield improvements, install a new ADA-compliant restroom facility
and a new playground structure, drill a well, and repair bleachers at
Cactus Park in Lakeside.
2. Authorize the Chief
Financial Officer to execute an agreement with the Lakeside Bobby Sox,
establishing terms for receipt of the funds described above.
Fiscal Impact
The fiscal impact of the proposed recommendation is $120,000. The funding
source is FY 2001-2002 District Two Community Projects (0262). This action
will result in the addition of no staff years and no future costs.
BACKGROUND:
Cactus Park in Lakeside is in need of repair. The baseball and softball
fields have no grass, yet they serve as the only playing field for many
baseball and softball league teams and hundreds of children and adults.
The bleachers are dilapidated, but are the only seating available for
sports fans. The restrooms are neither ADA-compliant, nor are they easily
accessible by wheelchair, yet several handicapped fans come to the games
at Cactus Park. One old, metal slide sits where a playground should be,
and no fencing exists where it is most needed to keep the children safe.
Today's action will
provide funds to assist the proactive volunteers of the Lakeside Bobby
Sox and the Lakeside community in making improvements to the Bobby Sox
ballfields and bleachers at Cactus Park. In addition, an ADA-compliant
restroom facility and well will be installed, and a new play structure
will be added for the children.
Let's join together
in our support of volunteer groups such as the Lakeside Bobby Sox, who
work together within their communities to affect changes that improve
not only their park facilities and their quality of life, but also the
lives of their children.
Respectfully submitted,
DIANNE JACOB
Supervisor, Second District
