TO: Board of Supervisors
SUBJECT: A New Scoreboard for Steele Canyon High School
SUMMARY:
Overview
Today's proposal will provide matching funds to the Steele Canyon High
School Booster Club toward the purchase of a new scoreboard for the football
field at Steele Canyon High School in Jamul.
Recommendations:
SUPERVISOR DIANNE JACOB:
1. Allocate $8,000 from the District Two Community Projects fund (0262)
to the Steele Canyon High School Athletic Booster Club to purchase a new
scoreboard at Steele Canyon High School in Jamul.
2. Authorize the Chief
Financial Officer to execute an agreement with Steele Canyon High School
Athletic Booster Club, establishing terms for receipt of the funds described
above.
Fiscal Impact
The fiscal impact of the proposed recommendation is $8,000. The funding
source is FY 2001-2002 District Two Community Projects (0262). This action
will result in the addition of no staff years and no future costs.
BACKGROUND:
Steele Canyon High School currently has no scoreboard on its football
field. As a result, football games are difficult to monitor: people lose
track of the score, coaches do not know how much time remains, and fans
are frustrated with all the guesswork.
The Steele Canyon
High School Booster Club, which was started last year when Steele Canyon
High School opened, supports all athletic programs at the school. In just
a year and a half, the Booster Club has raised $11,000 for their athletic
programs. However, this is not even enough to fund one scoreboard, which
costs approximately $16,000, much less to support the needs of the other
sports. The Booster Club has committed $8,000 toward the purchase of a
new scoreboard, and has requested matching funds from the County to fund
their highest priority project.
Today's proposal will
allocate $8,000 from the District Two Community Projects fund (0262) to
the Steele Canyon High School Athletic Booster Club to complete funding
needed for a new scoreboard. I urge your
support.
Respectfully submitted,
DIANNE JACOB
Supervisor, Second District
